My body of illustrative works pays tribute to my experience being born in America to Mexican parents, time spent in the Yucatan jungle listening to my grandmother speak Maya, seeing ancient ruins and exploring Maya sites before tourism ruined the native landscape. I’m also heavily influenced by hip hop, graffiti, alternative music and growing up in the hub of culture that was Los Angeles in the 80’s and 90’s. The result is a compelling style of characters, lettering, reimagined ancient iconography and dynamic, textured backgrounds. I explore mythology, intuition and Shamanistic practices as inspiration for contemporary transformation. My artwork is a reinterpretation of ancient, indigenous art and mysticism for a contemporary audience, and it is always my intent to spark inspiration and a shift in the consciousness of the viewer.
